Where to start looking

I feel stuck and I do not know why

Nothing is wrong enough to point at and nothing is moving either.

You have had the same three thoughts for months and they have stopped producing anything.

People ask how things are going and you say fine, because the true answer would take an hour and you are not sure you could finish it.

Stuck often means two things are pulling evenly

When a life stops moving it is rarely because nobody is pushing. It is more often because two real commitments are pulling in opposite directions and both of them matter. Naming the second one is usually the part that has been skipped.

Some of what is holding you is weather, not a decision

A caring responsibility, a contract, an illness, a market. Those are conditions, and treating a condition as a failure of will is exhausting and gets nowhere. What can be moved and what has to be carried are different problems, and only one of them responds to effort.

Waiting can be the right thing and still feel terrible

A deliberate wait and a drift look identical from the outside and feel very different from the inside. If this is a wait, it is worth saying so, giving it a shape, and knowing what would end it. That alone changes how it sits.

What this usually connects to

  • What changed shortly before things stopped moving, even if it seemed unrelated.
  • The one thing you would do first if the rest of it were settled.

A question worth sitting with

  • If nothing about your circumstances could change this year, what would you want to be different anyway?

It may be easier to say it out loud first and work out which part of it is actually yours to move.

It is a conversation, not a questionnaire. You can stop at any point, and finishing it does not mean anything has to change.

If the question turns out to be a different one

This is reflection, not treatment. If what surfaces here is heavier than an exercise can hold, speak to your GP or a qualified professional.
